Sizzling ad copy grabs readers and won't let go.

Dull copy does not contain very many active words and often has been written in the passive voice. It will be judged to be a little longwinded...

 

Your great-grandmother should be able to understand your technical documents.

If, in the first instance having opened the technical manual you are confronted with a chronological history of how the application has evolved over time, then turn immediately to the application and begin to attempt to operate it yourself, working on the assumption that you will get there eventually...Yawn!

Every piece of writing should entertain while it informs.

This doesn't mean it has to be wacky, but even formal writing doesn't need to put your reader to sleep.
